MW3 10th Prestige Leveling Guide – How to level up fast in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

MW3 10th Prestige Leveling Guide – How to rank up quickly in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 – Version 1.5

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” – Walt Disney

Welcome to the MW3 10th prestige leveling guide.  I started making leveling guides for call of duty back in MW2 because I needed a way to level quickly.  I have a wife, 2 kids and a full time job so I don’t have as much time as I used to have back in college to devote to video games, but I still wanted access to all the extra bonuses that come with prestige in call of duty so I began researching and applying techniques to help me level quickly.  This guide is a collection of information and tips to help you level quickly in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Modern warfare 3 has been out for 8 weeks now and I am currently half way through my 8th prestige with 98 hours (4.08 Days) of in game time played.  That means I am leveling at a pace of about 7.05 levels an hour, or 169 levels for an entire day of in game time played.  Now while that is not the fastest that I have seen someone level (a friend of mine is 10th prestige with just over 4 days played), I feel that I move through the prestige levels at a faster than average pace, so here it is.

Why should I prestige?
Let’s start things off with asking ourselves why we should prestige.  Other than increasing your e-peen size, prestiging in MW3 gives you prestige tokens that you can use to purchase in game rewards through the prestige shop.

In the prestige shop, you can spend your tokens on the following rewards:

  • Extra custom class slots
  • Double XP (2 hours in game time)
  • Double Weapon XP
  • Regular Package (unlocks an extra callsign title & emblem)
  • Hardened Package (Requires prestige 5: unlocks an extra callsign title & emblem)
  • Veteran Package (Requires prestige 10:  unlocks an extra callsign title & emblem)
  • Unlock Gear (choose one weapon, equipment or perk to unlock permanently on every prestige from that point forward)
  • Reset All Stats (resets everything, including your prestige level)

Now, the only one in this list that I don’t really consider a “reward” is the reset all stats option.  But if you are dedicated enough to do that then more power to you.

NOTE: If you prestiged in any of the previous call of duty games (xbox 360 and PS3 only) you will automatically receive one bonus token for each COD game you have already prestiged in.  You can only receive one token per game, regardless of your prestige level in that game, for a total of 4 potential prestige tokens (COD 4, COD WaW, COD MW2, COD Black Ops)

You will also unlock a special emblem that appears next to your gamer tag after each prestige that are shown below.  My recommendations for you is to look at the emblems and in game rewards that you can purchase with the prestige tokens and decide if it is worth it to you to prestige.  I personally like entering prestige mode because I enjoy the satisfaction of leveling up and unlocking things as I play, but a lot of people don’t care about extra class slots, titles and emblems, in which case I would recommend just staying at level 80 or staying at whichever prestige icon you like the most. (I am staying at 8th prestige because I like it’s icon the most and I have already unlocked all my custom classes)

How much experience is required to prestige?
The maximum amount of experience you can earn in MW3 is 1,746,200 per prestige.  The maximum player level in MW3 is level 80.  This is quite a bit different from Modern Warfare 2, which had 70 levels and a maximum experience of 2,516,000.  So while MW3 has 10 more levels to go through than MW2, the total amount of experience necessary to prestige is over 30% less.

Leveling scales up as you level up, which means that the later levels will take much longer to get through than the early levels.  Experience wise, half way through a prestige is around level 60.

Here is a breakdown of each level in MW3, and how much experience is required to reach it:

How long is this going to take?
If you have weighed the pros and cons of entering prestige mode and want to get through your prestige levels as fast as possible let me outline the time it is going to take to reach max prestige.

Leveling is based off of experience earned while playing the game. Every time you do something that helps your team you are rewarded with experience. For example getting a kill, capturing a point, or defusing a bomb will all earn you experience.

Aside from the things you do in game you are also rewarded for completing specific in game challenges and gives you a bonus for finishing each match you start.

Leveling up in Call of Duty even when using the tips in this guide is still a lengthy process. Depending on the skill of you and your team it could take anywhere from 12-24 hours of in game time played to prestige.

If you can complete 80 levels within 12 hours of game time played you are leveling at a pretty fast pace. I am currently half way through my 8th prestige with 98 hours (4.08 Days) of in game time played.  That means I am leveling at a pace of about 7.05 levels an hour, or 169 levels for an entire day of in game time played.  While this is not the fastest I have seen, it is up there.

Leveling basics
As I mentioned earlier, leveling is based upon experience earned while doing in game tasks such as kills, assists, captures, calling in pointstreaks or destroying enemy poinstreaks.  So the number one way to level up quicker is to get better at the game.  This guide isn’t really meant to help you get better at COD, but if you would like some tips on getting better at MW3 click here.

Aside from active in game tasks that earn you experience, the 2 other main ways you earn experience is through your match bonus and your challenges.

Match Bonus
Match bonus is experience earned at the end of each game as a bonus for staying until the game ends (rather than quitting out or twatboarding).  The scaler for your match bonus is twice as big if you win than if you lose.  So that brings me to my first leveling tip of the guide:

Leveling Tip #1: Win

And what’s the easiest way to win consistently?  Play with a competent group of players that communicate and go for the objectives.  If you usually play solo, try getting a group together of people you can play with.  If you don’t have any friends that you play with already, checkout hupitgaming.com to find some players you can play with.

If you would like to see exactly how match bonus is calculated read below (thanks to Pozzuh @ reddit)
Scaler = 1 if you win the match, 0.5 if you lose
spm = (3 + ( YOUR_RANK * 0.5 ) ) * 10
//maxmatchLength in seconds, YOUR_MATCHTIME in seconds:
matchBonus = Scaler * ( ( maxmatchLength/60 ) * spm )  * (YOUR_MATCHTIME / maxmatchLength)

So let’s say my rank is 65. I’m playing FFA which has a max game length of 10min and I won the match after 7 min and 46 seconds (=471 sec)
spm = (3 + ( 65 * 0.5 ) ) * 10 = 355
matchBonus = 1* ( ( 600/60 ) * 355)  * (471 / 600) =  2788

And let’s say my rank is 80. I’m playing Kill confirmed which has a max game length of 10min and I lose the match after 10 min. (=600sec)
spm = (3 + ( 80 * 0.5 ) ) * 10 = 430
matchBonus = 0.5* ( ( 600/60 ) * 430)  * (600 / 600) =  2150

Leveling Tip #2: Play the game types which cater to you and your teams play style while still being able to enjoy the game.

Gametypes
Now in previous Call of Duty games there has always been a few gametypes that offered a strategic advantage to leveling (SnD/HQ in COD4, Demolition in MW2, HQ in Black Ops).  However I think that in MW3, there isn’t one universal game type that offers the best leveling potential, but that the best game type to level up is going to vary greatly depending on what kind of player you are.

Headquarters has gotten a big nerf in MW3, so I don’t recommend playing it to level up quickly.  Demolition is also not as strong as it was in MW2, so that one went out the window for me.  As it stands now I think the 4 best game types for leveling in MW3 are Search and Destroy, Team Defender, Domination and Kill Confirmed.

Search and Destroy is a 1-life per round, bomb plant based game.  The winner is the team that wins the best of 7 rounds, or first to 4 round wins.  SnD has always been a strong way to level up for players who can get kills.  SnD offers a whopping 500 XP per kill and bomb plant, which turns into a huge 1000 XP per kill when used in conjunction with double XP.  For players that are strategically sound and can get a lot of kills in SnD, this is a great way to level up.  But if you are impatient like me and find yourself running straight into the nearest enemy claymore at the start of each round, you are instead just going to spend most of the games watching your teammates, earning absolutely no experience.

Team Defender is a new game type to MW3.  It is similar to Halo’s oddball.  The game is TDM based, first team to 7500 score wins, but the catch is that there is 1 flag on the map at all times.  Whichever team possess’ the flag also earns a bonus score towards the team whenever they earn kills.  Most people dislike Team Defender, as the spawns are very tightly bunched, sporadic, and lead to a lot of hectic deaths and score changes.  But a solid group of players will learn how to camp one area and rack up kills very quickly on the enemy team.  The reason these games are so quick to level up is because it is basically a TDM game where the enemy team is constantly running towards the flag (rather than camping like usual TDM games).  Just make sure that you play this game type with a team of competent players, because if you play against another team that is well organized you will figure out that it is very difficult to break a 6 man defense all camping a couple of choke points on the map.

Domination is my next recommendation for game types and by far my most played game type.  Domination earns you +50XP for a kill as well as +150XP for a flag capture and +50XP for a flag defend.  If you play aggressively in a game like this you can easily rack up a lot of points and kills.  Out of the 80 hours I have spent playing MW3, 63 of those hours have been spent playing Domination.  Because it is my favorite game type I am partially biased towards it, but statistically it offers a lot of advantages too.  If you strictly compare Score Per Minute on gametypes you will see that SnD offers a huge advantage versus other traditional gametypes, as it takes 10 domination kills to equal 1 SnD kill.  But what most players don’t take into consideration is that when you are playing SnD, you are going to have a very difficult time earning in game challenges, as most of them are based around kills or other actions that do not happen nearly as much in SnD.  Through one prestige I will earn hundreds of thousands of experience points on challenges alone, which I believe trumps the leveling potential of SnD.  Although I will say that challenge XP is not doubled when you are using double XP, so technically a good player playing SnD while on double XP will be getting massive amounts of experience should he be good enough to get a lot of kills and bomb plants/defuses while playing SnD.

Kill confirmed is my final game type recommendation.  Kill Confirmed is another TDM based gametype which rewards you for kills and collecting dog tags (confirming or denying a kill).  The reason why kill confirmed is a great game type to level up quickly is because it’s faster paced than TDM and at the same type offers more leveling potential.  When you kill a player you get +50 XP.  When you deny a kill you get +50 XP. When you kill a player and collect their dog tag, you earn +100 XP.  When you kill a player AND A TEAMMATE collects that dog tag, YOU STILL EARN +100 XP.  Then last but certainly not least, when you die and recover your own dog tag you get +250 XP, the equivalent of 5 objective kills!  Kill confirmed is a great way to level up for these reasons.  Even if you aren’t the best slayer, you can collect and deny dog tags all game and earn more XP than the highest killing person on your team!

To sum it all up, the best game type for leveling depends on what type of a player you are as well as who you play with and what type of players they are.  And remember that you should be playing this game to have fun, so if there are certain gametypes that you dislike, simply don’t play them.

Challenges
The next major way of earning experience is through completing in game challenges.  MW3 challenges are specific tasks that you need to complete in order to earn a set amount of experience.  There are two basic types of challenges in MW3: Static challenges and progressive challenges.

Static challenges are challenges that you only need to complete once and you will earn the experience for that entire prestige. For example you get 1000 XP the first time you shoot down an enemy helicopter for completing the Flyswatter challenge.  You also get 500 XP the first time you jump off something tall enough that you die upon impact (the seatown well works good for this)

Progressive challenges on the other hand are challenges that you complete in tiers over time, such as the marksman gun challenge. The marksman gun challenge is a challenge for every gun in the game that earns you experience as you get kills with a particular weapon. There are different tiers levels of this challenge which earn you more XP for every level completed.  For example you get 250 XP for getting 10 kills with a primary weapon, and then another 1,000 XP when you reach 25 kills with that same primary, and then another 2,000 XP when you reach 75 kills with that same primary weapon.

MW3 challenges are almost identical to MW2 challenges, so don’t expect to be doing anything like contracts from black ops.

No matter who you are, as you play the game you will complete challenges.  But if you want to maximize your leveling efficiency, you want to plan out your challenges in a way that maximizes your experience gain during the time you spend playing.  The next few sections are dedicated to all the different challenges in the game,

Leveling Tip #3: Complete your primary and secondary weapon challenges as efficiently as possible.  Get 500 kills with a primary before moving on, and earn the mastery challenges for your best secondaries.

As you can see, in order to maximize your XP per tier, you want to try and work towards 500 kills for a primary weapon before moving onto another gun.  There are a few reasons you want to use the same gun until you get 500 kills.  First off, you earn around 8,000 XP more for your first 500 kills than you do for your next 500 kills.  Secondly, there are prestige challenges for each weapon that do not reset when you prestige.  They are listed above as “Veteran Gun Challenge 1-3”.  As you can see the first 2 veteran challenges are at 500 and 1000 kills, but then jump dramatically to 2500 kills for level 3.  So getting 500 kills and then moving onto another weapon allows you to take advantage of as many of those veteran gun challenges 1 & 2 as possible.  Last of all, getting 500 kills should earn you the mastery achievement for the weapon that nets you another 10,000 experience.

Keep in mind that the veteran gun challenges are only rewarded at 500, 1000 and 2500 kills… so I only get the veteran gun challenges for 2 prestiges before moving onto a new weapon.  That might be a little difficult to understand so let me explain.

Let’s say that during your first prestige you get 500 kills with the M4.  You will get just over 28,000XP from the marksman challenges alone, along with an additional 10,000XP from your first veteran challenge for a total of 38,000XP for 500 kills.  Then if you got 500 kills with the M4 again on your second prestige, you would also earn 38,000XP (28,000XP for marksman challenges + 10,000XP for the second veteran challenge).  But if you got another 500 kills with the M4 on your 3rd prestige, you would only get 28,000XP from the marksman challenges and miss out on the extra 10,000 veteran XP, as the next veteran challenge requires 2500 kills and you will only have a total of 1500 kills from the 3 prestiges.  For this reason, I suggest using a primary weapon until you reach 500 kills for a maximum of 2 prestiges.

DISCLAIMER: now, that being said… don’t use a weapon if you suck with it.  If you are getting frustrated and not getting any kills with a gun just because you are trying to get the veteran challenge, you are just going to end up missing out on more experience than you would have if you just stuck with a gun you are good with.  It’s better to play well with guns that aren’t helping you level up than it is to play poorly with guns that are “supposed” to be helping you level up but aren’t.

Secondary Weapon Challenges
The next set of challenges you need to be aware of are the secondary weapon challenges.  Now secondary weapons for the most part are slower to level with because you usually don’t get as many kills, but what they lack in killing ability they make up for in mastery.  The mastery challenge for all secondary weapons gives 10,000 experience, just like a primary weapon.  The difference is that the mastery challenge is completed at level 10 for secondary weapons rather than level 30 for most primaries.

Getting a secondary weapon to level 10 only requires 75 kills for a machine pistol and 50 kills for certain pistols, at which point you will earn 10,000 XP for the gun.  Earn the mastery challenge for all of your favorite/best secondary weapons.  I usually get the mastery challenge for every machine pistol and revolver in the game, a total of 60,000 XP for 400 total kills.

Also within the secondary challenges is a little hidden gem that a lot of people don’t take advantage of: the stinger.  The stinger is a secondary launcher that is vehicle lock only, meaning it is worthless to get kills with.  But stingers are a great secondary to use for 2 reasons: The first reason is that shooting down enemy air support will earn you a lot of XP and earn you points towards your pointstreak.  The second reason the stinger is so great is because the marksman challenges are so low for the stinger.  You only have to shoot 40 enemy streaks out of the air for your first 10,000 XP bonus.

I run a stinger on almost all of my classes as soon as I finish the machine pistol challenges (at least mastery and sometimes the 300 kill marksman challenge).  Use a stinger as your secondary weapon and be conscious of shooting down all enemy pointstreaks when you have a chance.

Leveling Tip #4: Complete the attachment and proficiency challenges for your weapons without decreasing your combat efficiency.

Weapon Attachment & Proficiency Challenges
The next set of challenges that can help you level up quickly are the weapon attachment challenges and the proficiency challenges.  The weapon attachment challenges are static 750-1000XP challenges that are earned for getting kills while using specific attachments on a weapon.  The proficiency challenges are 6 level progressive challenges earned by completing specific tasks related to a proficiency while using that proficiency on a weapon.

Both of these challenges offer a lot of potential experience to be earned during a prestige, but you need to use caution when completing these challenges.

When it comes to attachment challenges, some players do really bad with certain attachments (ie thermal or acog sights).  The amount of experience you earn for these challenges is between 750-1000XP, the equivalent of 15-20 kills on domination/kill confirmed.  So if you end up struggling with a weapon attachment and could have earned more than 15-20 additional kills during the time you were using it, it ends up being slower leveling than if you had just used your favorite attachment.  Let’s take a look at some standard attachment challenges:

Challenge

Description

XP/kill

AR Red Dot Sight Get 60 kills while aiming down sights with an attached red dot sight 60 1,000 16.67
AR Silencer Get 15 kills with an attached silencer 15 750 50.00
AR Grenade Launcher Get 20 kills with the attached grenade launcher 20 750 37.50
AR ACOG Get 20 kills while aiming down sights with an attached ACOG sight 20 750 37.50
AR Rapid Fire Get 40 kills while using rapid fire 40 1,000 25.00
AR Heartbeat Get 40 kills while using an attached heartbeat sensor 40 1,000 25.00
AR Shotgun Get 40 kills with an attached shotgun 40 1,000 25.00
AR Holographic Get 40 kills while aiming down sights with an attached holographic sight 40 1,000 25.00
AR Extended Mags Get 40 kills while using extended mags 40 1,000 25.00

As you can see most challenges will earn you 25 XP per kill.  This is a nice bonus (50% increase for dom/kc) as long as you are decent with the attachment.  But if you struggle with an attachment then it’s not worth the effort.  I personally get the RDS, Silencer, ACOG, RapidFire, Heartbeat, Holographic and Extended Mags challenges out of the above attachments.

One thing to note is that you can actually stack attachment challenges by using the attachment proficiency, allowing you to attach 2 attachments to your weapon.  And while we are talking about proficiencies let’s take a look at a standard proficiency challenge list:

XP Per Kill

Proficiency 1 15 Proficiency Kills/tasks 15 500 33.33
Proficiency 2 30 Proficiency Kills/tasks 30 1,000 66.67
Proficiency 3 60 Proficiency Kills/tasks 60 2,500 83.33
Proficiency 4 120 Proficiency Kills/tasks 120 5,000 83.33
Proficiency 5 300 Proficiency Kills/tasks 300 10,000 55.56
Proficiency 6 750 Proficiency Kills/tasks 750 10,000 22.22

As you can see, proficiency challenges take 2 giant dives in XP per kill during the proficiency V & VI challenges.  Also some proficiencies are earned for straight kills while other proficiencies require you getting kills in certain ways (for example Impact requires you to get kills through objects).  For this reason I only level up the following proficiencies and only work on the first 5 challenges of a tier: Kick, Attachments, Stability, Range (smgs), Damage (shotguns). Depending on your play style and preferred weapons, you might never use a proficiency at all during a prestige (ie speed which is only available on snipers and lmgs)

So what do all these challenges mean in terms of leveling?  Basically, you are trying to maximize your XP per action/kill without hurting your overall combat effectiveness.  If you equip an attachment/proficience and consequently do really poorly for 10 games in a row, you will probably earn less XP earning the challenges than you would have just using your best class setup.  So it all boils down to how diverse you are as a player and how well you do with different attachments/proficiencies.

Leveling Tip #5: Complete the perk and pro-perk challenges for all perks that offer a high XP per task reward.  If the tasks are easy, complete all 6 challenges.  If the tasks are hard, avoid all challenges together.

Perk Challenges
The next set of challenges that can help you level up quickly is the perk challenges.  Each perk challenge has 6 tiers or levels to complete and when you unlock the pro version of that perk you also unlock 6 tiers or levels of a new challenge related to that pro perk.  The amount of XP you earn for each of the 6 tiers in the perk challenges is as follows: 500 XP -> 1,000 XP -> 2,500 XP -> 5,000 XP -> 10,000 XP -> 10,000 XP.  So as you can see, each perk has the ability to earn you 29,000 XP for the default challenge and another 29,000 XP for the pro perk challenge.

In order to help you understand how perk challenge XP works let’s take a look at the challenges associated with the Scavenger Perk:

Challenge

Description

XP

XP Per Task

Scavenger Pro I Resupply X times while using Scavenger 10 500 50
Scavenger Pro II Resupply X times while using Scavenger 25 1,000 66.67
Scavenger Pro III Resupply X times while using Scavenger 50 2,500 100.00
Scavenger Pro IV Resupply X times while using Scavenger 100 5,000 100.00
Scavenger Pro V Resupply X times while using Scavenger 250 10,000 66.67
Scavenger Pro VI Resupply X times while using Scavenger 500 10,000 40.00
Hoarding Ammo I Get X kills while using Scavenger Pro 15 500 33.33
Hoarding Ammo II Get X kills while using Scavenger Pro 30 1,000 66.67
Hoarding Ammo III Get X kills while using Scavenger Pro 60 2,500 83.33
Hoarding Ammo IV Get X kills while using Scavenger Pro 120 5,000 83.33
Hoarding Ammo V Get X kills while using Scavenger Pro 300 10,000 55.56
Hoarding Ammo VI Get X kills while using Scavenger Pro 750 10,000 22.22

As you can see, after you resupply 10 times while using scavenger you earn 500 XP, then you earn 1000 XP for your next 15 resupplies.  Following your next 25 resupplies, you earn 2500 XP.  As you can see up until Scavenger Pro V, every challenge results in a higher XP yield per task.  Then at Scavenger Pro V and VI you see large XP drop offs.  Your final challenge requires 250 resupplies to net you 10,000 XP, that’s only 40 XP per resupply, less than you get per resupply for your first 10.  The same thing happens with the hoarding ammo challenge.  In fact if you look at every perk challenge in the game, the XP per task always drops off at the 5th and 6th challenge.

From this information, we can conclude that in order to get the best per task experience gains from these challenges we would complete only the first 4 levels of each challenge before moving on.  But certain perk challenges are so easy that it’s worth it to complete all 6 challenges, and other perk challenges are so hard that it’s not worth completing any of the challenges.

Every player has different strengths and weaknesses, so exactly what perk challenges you go for is up to you.  If you struggle to get kills, don’t go for the really big 750 kill 10k challenges.  Instead work towards the support challenges like blind eye and sit rep.

That being said, I am going to list the challenges for all of the perks below as well as my tips on how to complete them in the least amount of time possible.

Leveling Tip #6: Use the specialist or support strike package to quickly gain additional XP bonuses each game.

Strike Packages
The 2 best strike packages to utilize when trying to level quickly is the Specialist and Support strike packages.  The specialist strike package earns you specialist bonus XP for every perk reward you earn and also allows you to work towards all of your perk challenges at the same time.  The support strike package on the other hand allows you to rack up a lot of XP through taking down enemy kill streaks and getting assists.  If you tend to get more kills than deaths each game I recommend running specialist, otherwise support is for you.

Specialist strike package
When you reach level 20, you unlock the specialist strike package.  Unlike the other 2 strike packages, the specialist strike package rewards you with extra perks for chaining points together instead of killstreaks.  When you run the specialist strike package you unlock an extra perk every 2 points you score in a game and when you hit 8 points you unlock every perk in the game and you become a one man army.

The best thing about unlocking one man army (earned by getting 8 points) is that you can work towards completing challenges for every perk in the game at the same time.  OMA resets upon death, so running the specialist strike package is not recommended for people who struggle to stay alive.  But if you consistently post high scores in the game and play smart you can really rack up XP fast through completing a large amount of perk challenges at the same time.

The best part about the specialist strike package when it comes to leveling is that it also gives you extra bonus XP for every perk that you unlock.  I have received varying reports as to how much XP you earn for your specialist bonus, but after reviewing a lot of my own game footage this is what I think happens.  Your first 3 perk rewards earn you an additional 150 bonus XP as a specialist bonus, followed by a 200 XP bonus for earning all the perks in the game (one man army @ 8 kills).  Once you have unlocked one man army you will also earn an additional 50 bonus XP for every other kill that you get past 8.

When using the specialist strike package I always recommend that you equip Hardline Pro as your custom class red perk.  The reason that you should use hardline as your red perk is that the first point you get of each life results in your first perk reward being unlocked.  If you were running Assassin or Quick draw as your red perk it would require 2 kills for you to unlock your first perk reward and you miss out on potential specialist bonuses.  Another advantage of running hardline pro is that every other assist you get counts as a kill and a point towards your specialist streak.  Let’s say that you have 1 assist and you throw a flash bang at an enemy before you die.  If that enemy is killed by your teammate while still flashed and you earn your second assist, you will respawn with your first perk reward automatically unlocked, since your second assist counts as a point.  If you were running another red perk you would not get credit for that assist, even if you unlocked hardline as a perk reward because you would lose hardline upon death.

Support strike package
The support strike package is the best way to level up if you find yourself dying a lot while playing call of duty.  It is also the most beneficial strike package to your entire team and will help your team win which equals a bigger match bonus.

The reason the support strike package has so much leveling potential is because your point streak does not reset upon death.  So even if you are dying just as much as you are getting points, your streak remains intact.

The secret to earning a lot of experience while using the support package is to combine hardline pro with perks and pointstreaks that get a lot of assists.  I recommend using this class:
Perk 1: Recon
Perk 2: Hardline Pro
Perk 3: Marksman / Sitrep
Primary: Anything (Grenade Launcher attachment is nice if using Recon)
Secondary: Stinger
Lethal & Tactical: Semtex & Flashbangs if using Recon, tac inserts if playing kill confirmed, otherwise anything is fine.
Support Streaks: Ballistic Vests, Sam Turret, Recon Drone -OR- Recon Drone / Stealth Bomber / EMP

Ballistic vests are good because you earn XP for your teammates picking them up.  Not only do they help you, your teammates get 150% health for picking them up.  The vests are timed and are not affected by how many teammates pick one up.  You can earn hundreds of XP for a well placed ballistic vest (try to place it out in the open near where your teammates spawn)

Sam turrets are nice because they are basically an automated launcher.  If the enemy team is earning a lot of air support or UAV/CUAV’s then a sam turret can get you a lot of XP.  But be careful to not just throw a sam turret down anywhere.  The enemy team earns a point for killing your sam turret, so they will kill it if it is just sitting out in the open.

Stealth bombers are the only offensive pointstreak in the support package.  Personally,  I think it was retarded of the developers to put stealth bombers in the support strike package, but that’s another story.  This is one of the best pointstreaks available.  Not only can it clear an entire section of the map, you can easily get hundreds of XP in kills by placing a bomber in the correct location.

Also, EMP’s are a great pointstreak.  A lot of players opt to use the escort airdrop but I feel that is a mistake.  Escort airdrops will earn you kills or XP depending on if you pick them up or your teammates do, but they take forever to drop and a good team will shoot it down before it gets a chance to drop the care packages.  EMP is a pointstreak that instantly kills all enemy air support AND prevents the enemy from calling in any pointstreaks for an entire minute.  I can’t tell you how annoying it is to run into a team that is using multiple EMP’s… 60 seconds feels like forever in one round of MW3.  EMP’s won’t help you earn that much XP (aside from whatever you destroy when calling it in), however they are game changers and they will help your team win games.

And last but certainly not least, the majority of your XP will be earned using the Recon Drone.  The recon drone is a remote controlled helicopter that allows you to “spot” enemy players that will show up constantly on your teammates radar UNTIL THEY DIE!  That’s right, until they die.  In other words, when you tag an enemy player you basically give them a death sentence.  Tagging a player earns you +50XP and when that player dies you earn an additional +20XP.  Since all players are likely to die after being tagged you are basically earning +70XP per tag.  I have seen people get over 30 assists in a single game running this support streak layout.  That is over 2000 XP per game from your assists alone.  Not to mention that every other assist of yours counts as another point towards your point streak.

That is why I recommend setting up your support streak in one of 2 ways.  The first way is to put recon drone as your last earned pointstreak… With hardline, that is only 9 points.  If you are constantly helping your team with objectives you can get over 3 recon drones in a single match.  The other method of setting up your support streak is to use the recon drone as the first unlocked streak, followed by higher reward streaks like the EMP or Stealth Bomber.  This makes it so your assists while flying the drone will count towards your higher pointstreaks.  Either way you should be earning a lot of assists and XP using one of these support strike package setups.

Leveling Tip #7: Be aware of unique static challenges that can be completed with as little effort as possible.

Static Challenges:
There are a few static challenges that should be specifically mentioned in this guide.  They are challenges that can be completed within 1-2 games and the XP that is rewarded for completing them is worth taking the time to do them.

WARNING: One thing to note about static challenges is that a lot of them are odd challenges that could directly affect your statistics, so if you are a K/D or W/L stat whore completing these challenges can affect your stats.

NOTE: Not all static challenges are available when you first prestige.  Each set of challenges requires a certain level to unlock.

Anyways here are is a break down of all the static challenges I have deemed worth “considering”.  They aren’t challenges I completed in every prestige but are ones that I feel reward enough XP to consider doing them.  Keep in mind that a challenge that rewards even 500 XP is equivalent of getting 10 kills in an objective game type or 5 kills in TDM.

  •  Basic Training (Lvl 4)
    • Flyswatter (1000 XP) – shoot down an enemy helicopter.  Grab a launcher and earn the easiest 1000 XP you will ever get.
    • Goodbye (500 XP) – fall 30 feet or more to your death.  A good place to do this is on the map “Sea Town” by the “C” domination spawn there is a big well you can jump down to complete the challenge
    • Base Jump (750 XP) – fall 15 feet or more and survive.  Just find a ledge and jump off it… most people get this unintentionally
    • The rest of the basic training challenges are just ones you will earn as you play… don’t worry too much about them.
  • Operations (Lvl 15)
    • Bomb down (1000 XP) – Kill a bomb carrier in Sabotage or S&D.  Pretty much just play Sabotage for a minute and camp a bomb and you will get this.
    • Last man standing (1000 XP) – This is the easiest to do playing S&D solo.  Join a game then just wait in your spawn while on the attacking team… If your team is bad you will guaranteed be the last man standing.
    • Saboteur / Defuser / Bomb Defender (2 tiers on all 3 challenges for 1500 XP a piece) - I don’t enjoy sabotage and have only played it a couple of times in MW3, so this is mostly hypothetical.  But in Blops there used to be a great way to earn defuses and plants and that’s by playing Sabotage with a team.  Basically you plant then bomb then everyone hides near the point and lets the enemy team defuse the bomb.  Then you kill the enemies and replant the bomb.  Rinse, Repeat.  You would be surprised how many enemy players will continually run to the bomb and defuse it, like lambs to the slaughter.  The defuser is exactly opposite in that you let the enemy plant the bomb then kill them and defuse.  Rinse, repeat.  Then bomb defender is basically the same as above except you kill the enemies while they are defusing instead of letting them defuse.  If you completed both tiers of all 3 of these challenges you would earn 4500 XP and these can all be completed in one match of sabotage (although bomb defender is the hardest)
    • FFA Victor (3 tiers for 4000 XP total) – Place 1st, 2nd or 3rd at least 10 times in FFA.  If you are decent at playing free for all.  Quickly play 10 matches for a total of 4000 bonus XP from this challenge.  While you are playing FFA, try to complete the finishing move challenges at the same time.
  • Proficiencies (Lvl 20)
    • Talked about earlier in this guide next to weapon attachment challenges
  • Precision (Lvl 30)
  • Finishing Moves (Lvl 40)
  • Humiliation (Lvl 50)
  • Payback (Lvl 60)
  • First Class (Lvl 65)
  • Intimidation (Lvl 70)

Daily & Weekly XP Challenges:
Daily & Weekly challenges are IW/Sledgehammers failed attempt at Treyarchs contracts.  In concept, they are a good idea, but they are poorly implemented.  The issue with challenges is that all daily challenges earn you 1000 XP, and all weekly challenges earn you 5000 XP (at least they do right now).  Some challenges are super easy (call in Assault UAV 2 times) while others are pretty difficult (get direct impact kills with a launcher, etc).  These challenges do not reward you with more XP for completing more difficult tasks.  In some ways this is good because you can get 5000 XP for some really simple weekly challenges.  But in other ways it’s bad, because there are some difficult challenges that just aren’t worth the effort to complete.

Leveling Tip #8: Complete all challenges as efficiently as possible by using class setups that compliment each other.

Class Setups:
Creating class setups that compliment each other in order to maximize your experience gains is probably the most important tip to leveling quickly, but it can be a little confusing.  The idea here is that you want to setup your classes in a manner that will allow you to work towards multiple challenges at the same time.

Consider the following scenario:
Completing the first 5 marksman challenges for an Assault Rifle by getting 300 kills earns you 28,250 XP. That is over 94 bonus XP per kill.
Completing the first 5 kick proficiency challenges by getting 300 kills aimed down sights earns you 19,000 XP.  That is over 63 bonus XP per kill.
Completing the first 5 SoH challenges for getting 300 kills with SoH earns you 19,000 XP.  That’s another 63 bonus XP per kill.
Completing the first 5 Quickdraw challenges for getting 200 kills within a few seconds of aiming down sights earns you 19,000 XP.  That’s a bonus 95 XP per kill.
Completing the first 5 Stalker challenges for getting 300 kills while aiming down sights earns you 19,000 XP.  Again that’s over 63 bonus XP per kill.
Completing  the red dot and holographic sight attachment challenges for getting a total of 100 kills while aiming down sights earns you 2,000 XP.  That’s a bonus 20 XP per kill.

All of these challenges are great bonus XP when looked at individually.  But now consider this.  You can complete every single challenge I listed above at the same time with 1 custom class.  If you were to get 300 kills while aiming down sights with a custom class that had an Assault Rifle + Kick proficiency + Red dot sight (and holographic at some point), plus Sleight of Hand, Quickdraw, Stalker… you would earn an astounding 106,250 experience through your challenges alone.  That means that for those 300 kills, you would be earning an incredible 354 bonus XP per kill!  The leveling potential is outstanding!  Keep this in mind when creating your custom classes.

DISCLAIMER: Certain challenges are not unlocked until certain levels.  For example proficiency challenges are not unlocked until level 20, so the above class would lose out on some potential until you reached level 20.  In order to maximize your leveling efficiency keep this in mind when working towards each challenge.

I am going to list out all of the custom classes I have personally used to efficiently help me earn experience.  If I did not mention a weapon class or perk that means you can use anything you want.  For example the class above focuses on your primary, so it doesn’t matter what secondary weapon you use.  Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any good ideas to add to this section.

Aim Down Sight Custom Class
Primary: Assault Rifle + Kick proficiency + Red dot, Silencer, Acog, Heartbeat, Holographic (as the attachments become available)
Perks: Sleight of Hand, Quickdraw, Stalker
Tips: Remember that most of your challenges are earned by getting kills while aimed down sights, so always be prepared to ADS before a kill.

Hip-fire Custom Class
Primary: Any sub-machine gun
Secondary: Any machine pistol (use akimbo once unlocked)
Perks: Extreme Conditioning, Hardline (if using specialist) or Blast Shield, Steady Aim
Streaks: Specialist

Leveling Tip #9: Utilize as many double XP sources as possible within MW3.

Double XP:
Double XP has always been a good way to level up quickly in the COD series.  Up until MW3, the only way to earn double XP was to play during double XP weekends or events, that usually happened after a map pack release.  But MW3 has really gone above and beyond with double XP, adding numerous ways to earn double XP as well as basing XP time on in game hours rather than actual time.

There are 5 methods that I know of that you can use to earn Double XP in MW3:

  • Double XP Weekends
  • Prestige Token Double XP
  • DewXP.com Mtn Dew / Doritos Double XP
  • Elite Clan Double XP
  • MOAB Double XP

First off, double XP weekends haven’t started yet.  I imagine the first double XP event will be after the first DLC map pack is released.  Double XP weekends are a great way to level up.  Not only are they available to anyone that plays the game during the specified time frame, they are also one of the only methods that stacks onto your barracks double XP.  They are real time based, which means that you want to pack in as many games during the event as possible.

Prestige token double XP is a waste of a token in my opinion.  I used one of my 4x bonus tokens on 2 hours double XP and I have regret that decision ever since.  2 hours of double XP is just not enough to justify spending a token on.  I would recommend unlocking gear or a custom class instead.

Dewxp.com is a great way to earn double XP.  The promotion ends on December 31, so you will want to act fast.  But basically you can buy specially marked mountain dew or doritos bags and redeem the double XP codes on the dewxp.com website then push double XP to your gamertag.

Elite clans are probably the best way to earn double XP.  Elite clans earn double XP hours for all members when you reach a certain level.  Your clan earns 2/4/6/8/24 hours of double XP for reaching level 10/20/30/40/50 respectively.  My elite clan just hit level 30, and I was able to claim our first 12 hours of double XP all at the same time.  Elite clans level up by completing clan challenges and clan competitions, or through the 500 bonus XP given to elite founders.

Finally, one method of double XP which is not very well known is M.O.A.B. double XP.  If you don’t already know, a M.O.A.B. (Massive Ordinance Airblast Bomb, Mother Of All Bombs) is an easter egg killstreak which you earn when you get 25 consecutive gun/knife/grenade kills, or 24 consecutive kills while using hardline. (pointstreak kills don’t count toward this total).  When you or someone on your team calls in a MOAB, your ENTIRE TEAM will earn double XP for the rest of the round.  The great thing about MOAB double XP is that it actually stacks with barracks double XP.  So if you have mountain dew or elite clan double XP in your barracks and you get a MOAB in game, you will earn 4x experience for the rest of the game.  I’m not sure how double XP weekends will work with MOAB XP, but it is possible that it will also stack onto MOAB XP, giving you 8x experience for getting a MOAB during double XP weekend while also using barracks double XP.

Getting better at MW3
As I mentioned right at the start of the guide, the number one way to level up faster in MW3 is to get better at the game.  But getting better at the game takes knowledge and practice.  I think one of the best ways to get better is to watch or play with some players that are noticeably better than you.  If you would like you can check out some of my games, I post videos at youtube.com/oTradeMark and occasionally stream my games on twitch.tv/oTradeMark.   I have won quite a few competitions playing Call of Duty and won all sorts of cool prizes including t-shirts, hoodies, a water bottle, an iPad, a USB flash drive and even a Brand New 2011 Black Ops Jeep Wrangler, so hopefully I can help you get a little better at the game.

Summary of the Top 10 Tips to help you level up faster in MW3:

  1. Win as many games as possible by playing with a team that communicates and goes for the objective.
  2. Play game types which cater to your play style while still being able to enjoy the game.
  3. Complete your primary and secondary weapon challenges as efficiently as possible.  Get 500 kills with a primary before moving on, and earn the mastery challenges for your best secondaries.
  4. Complete the attachment and proficiency challenges for your weapons without decreasing your combat efficiency.
  5. Complete the perk and pro-perk challenges for all perks that offer a high XP per task reward.  If the tasks are easy, complete all 6 challenges.  If the tasks are hard, avoid all challenges together.
  6. Use the specialist or support strike package to quickly gain additional XP bonuses each game.
  7. Be aware of unique static challenges that can be completed with as little effort as possible.
  8. Complete all challenges as efficiently as possible by using class setups that compliment each other.
  9. Utilize as many double XP sources as possible within MW3.

Black Ops Leveling Guide – How to Level Up Fast 15th Prestige

How to Level Up Fast in Black Ops – Call of Duty Blops Leveling Guide version 1.3 by oTradeMark

To prestige, or not to prestige.. that is the question.
Whether ‘tis nobler in the game to suffer
The nades and bullets of outrageous 12 year olds,
Or to take arms against a sea of AK74 users,
And, by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep

If you have played Call of Duty Black Ops Multiplayer very much you have most likely reached the rank of commander and unlocked the 5 star emblem next to your gamertag. If you are familiar with previous COD titles you will also know that this doesn’t have to be the end of the road for your leveling journey.

That is because in Call of Duty Black Ops you have the choice to enter prestige mode. Entering prestige mode in Call of Duty resets your current level and weapon set back to level 1 in exchange for unlocking a new emblem next to your gamertag along with extra custom class slots, playertags, and other bonus features of the multiplayer game.

Some of you might have already played 10+ days in Black Ops and you might already be a 15th prestige level 50 player. If that is the case, congratulations. Really the only thing that is required to reach the prestige 15 in Black Ops is time. No matter how bad you are, if you play enough you are bound to get there eventually.

But for those of you who don’t have as much time as you would like to play Black Ops and yet still want to reap the rewards that the later prestige levels have to offer, I have created a Black Ops leveling guide just for you.

Now just a preface on myself. I am married and have 2 children (1 boy and 1 girl). When I’m not working or spending time with my family, I enjoy playing sports & video games. Because I don’t have as much time to play now as I did when I was a single college student I need a way to level quickly and efficiently. That’s where this guide comes in. This guide is a collection of the things I have learned while leveling in Call of Duty Black Ops and it is what helped me prestige in one day playing only 50 games during the last Double XP weekend! Enjoy!

Why should I prestige?

OK, first off let’s talk about the benefits of entering prestige mode as outlined below. The first 10 prestiges don’t unlock anything aside from a new prestige emblem and an extra custom class slot every other prestige. Starting at prestige 11 you unlocked additional face tattoos to use on your in game character. At prestige 13 you unlock the ability to change the color of your clan tag and at prestige 14 you unlock the ability to purchase golden camouflage for your weapons (50,000 COD Cash a piece). Finally, prestige 15 unlocks the Prestige Pure playlist, a playlist that matches 15th prestige players against other 15th prestige players, and also entering prestige 15 unlocks the only animated playercard background in the game. Below is a chart to show what is unlocked at each prestige:

Prestige Level Unlocks
Prestige 1 Custom Class 6, Prestige Leaderboards & Playlist
Prestige 3 Custom Class 7
Prestige 5 Custom Class 8
Prestige 7 Custom Class 9
Prestige 9 Custom Class 10
Prestige 11 Face Tattoos
Prestige 13 Clan Tag Colors
Prestige 14 Golden Camo for guns (50,000 CP per)
Prestige 15 Prestige Pure Playlist, Animated Playercard Background

The 15 prestige emblems that will be located next to your gamertag at each prestige are shown below. My recommendation for you is to look at the emblems and unlocks that you will gain for each prestige and decide if it is worth it for you to prestige. I personally like entering prestige mode because I enjoy the satisfaction of leveling up and unlocking things as I play, but a lot of people don’t care about extra emblems or golden camos, in which case I would recommend just staying at level 50 and hording massive amounts of COD cash for everyone to see.

Aside from the things you do in game you are also rewarded for completing specific challenges and contracts that can be purchased in game. On top of that the game rewards you with a bonus XP multiplier anytime you win a game.

Leveling up in Call of Duty even when using the tips in this guide is still a lengthy process. Depending on the skill of you and your team it could take anywhere from 10-20 hours of in game time played to level through all 50 levels of a prestige. That is typically about 100-200 completed games at around 15 minutes per match.

If you can complete 50 levels within 16 hours of game time played you are leveling at an extremely fast pace. I just reached 14th prestige in 8 days and 8 hours of game time played, Which means I have gone through all 50 levels 14 times with an average of 14 game time hours per prestige.

The Call of Duty Black Ops Leveling System

First of all, to understand how to level quickly you need to understand how the Black Ops leveling system works. There are 50 levels in a prestige, each level requiring exponentially more experience than the one before. I have included a table below to show you exactly how much experience is needed to reach each level as well as the percentage of the prestige that is completed when you reach that level.

As you can see the total amount of experience necessary to prestige is approximately 1.25 million XP. When you reach level 25 you are actually only 18% of the way through the prestige experience wise, so the first 25 levels are going to go by much faster than the last 25 levels.

Level Rank Title Min XP XP to Next % Complete
1 Private 0 300 0.00%
2 Private 300 900 0.02%
3 Private 1200 1500 0.10%
4 Private First Class 2700 2100 0.21%
5 Private First Class 4800 2700 0.38%
6 Private First Class 7500 3400 0.59%

How to earn experience

The first thing that you should understand about leveling in black ops is how you earn experience. When you enter a game of Black Ops you are rewarded for the tasks you complete in game. Capturing objectives, killing enemies, assisting teammates, and calling in killstreaks are all examples of in game accomplishments that you can do to earn experience. But aside from the obvious ways of earning experience there are also several side challenges, contracts, and bonuses that can help you on your way.

Match Bonuses

Match bonus XP is exerience earned when you complete an entire match. If you leave during a game you forfeit this match bonus (which is a poor quit penalty to say the least). Your match bonus is determined by your current level, the length of the match and also if you win, lose or tie the match. Your match bonus is multiplied by 1 for a win, 0.5 for a loss, and 0.75 for a tie.

In other words, winning is very important to leveling up quickly, which brings me to my first suggestion. Always play with a team. Your team doesn’t have to be full of MLG caliber players. You just have to have share common goal of going after the objective and playing smart in order to win most of your games. If you already have a group of people that you play with that’s great. If you don’t, I recommend getting involved on some gaming forums or tryout for a clan to get some friends online. You can even add players to your console friends list directly from your recent players. If you are playing the game and get matched up with some good players who you enjoyed playing with send them a message and try to start up a party together. Some of the people I currently play with the most are just players I got matched up with randomly online and really enjoyed playing with.

Challenges

COD challenges are specific tasks that you need to complete in order to earn a set amount of experience. There are two basic types of challenges in Black Ops. Static challenges and Progressive challenges.

Static challenges are challenges that you only need to complete once and you will earn the experience for that entire prestige. For example did you know that you will earn 5000 XP just for earning a bankshot medal (bounce a tomahawk off a surface for a kill)?

Progressive challenges on the other hand are challenges that you complete over time, such as the marksman gun challenge. The marksman gun challenge is a challenge for every gun in the game that earns you experience as you get kills with a particular weapon. There are different levels of this challenge which earn you more XP for every level completed.

All challenges reset when you prestige except the lifetime challenges. Lifetime challenges are generic challenges that you work on when playing any mode in multiplayer and do not reset when you prestige.

Contracts

Contracts are in game bounties which you purchase with cod points and reward you with additional cod points and experience. Contracts are determined by Treyarch and switched every 24 hours to allow more variety on the types of challenges you can complete.

I was surprised to find out how many players don’t actually purchase contracts. I guess they don’t think that completing those challenges will earn them very much experience or help them in their leveling, however I am at prestige 13 and have earned over 700,000 XP on contracts alone, more than half of one prestige all together.

Always try to buy contracts that co-operate with each other. For example get 50 kills with an SMG + Capture 3 flags in CTF. Create an SMG runner class and go play some CTF. Or maybe there is a stab 2 people in the back with ninja contract as well as a get 75 kills with the famas contract. Equip ghost & ninja and a silenced famas and go to work on the other team.

Finally, don’t buy contracts that are going to cause you to do poorly in a game. There might be a 1000 XP contract for getting 50 kills while using the ACOG and Extended Mags on a gun but if you suck while using a poor class setup you are going to end up losing more than 1000 XP from missed kills and frustrating games/losses.

Game types

Let me preface this section by saying that gaming is meant to be fun. If you don’t enjoy a game type, don’t play it. That being said, there are many game types within Black Ops for you to choose from and some of them offer a distinct leveling advantage over others that I will cover with you now.

HQ

The fastest game type to level within when playing with a winning team is Headquarters. Headquarters is an objective game type where 2 teams fight over a certain area. Once the area is controlled by one team they become the defenders of that area, and the opposite team becomes the attackers of that area. The attackers are trying to break the HQ by killing the enemy team and regaining control of the area. Once your team captures the HQ, you only have 1 life and if you die you will not respawn until the enemy team breaks that HQ.

Headquarters earns your entire team 50 experience for every 5 seconds that you have the HQ controlled. The game ends after 20 minutes or after a team controls the HQ for 250 seconds total. 50 XP for every 5 seconds that you control the HQ turns out to be 2500 XP per player on the winning team not including task specific bonuses like kills, captures, challenges and contracts.

It is not uncommon for players to earn 10,000 XP for one game of Headquarters, in fact I was able to earn 44,451 experience for one game of Headquarters alone! (That is like leveling through all of level 41 in one game!)

S&D

The second fastest game type to level with is probably Search and Destroy. S&D is a one life bomb based game type which is played in rounds (Best out of 7). The main advantage of S&D is that you earn a ton of experience for kills and objectives when playing. A kill in S&D is worth 500 XP, an assist is worth 250 XP, and a plant or defuse is worth 500 XP. As you can see if you had a really good round and killed all 6 players plus planted/defused the bomb you would earn at least 3500 XP in that round alone. The downside to playing S&D is that it can be a double edged sword. If you are bad at S&D and don’t get very many kills/plants/defuses you will hardly earn any experience and end up just watching other players for the majority of the game.

I personally don’t like Search and Destroy because I tend to rush a lot and die early to a strategically placed claymore or frag grenade but some of my friends almost exclusively play S&D and level really well when they play it. One more thing to mention about S&D. Search and destroy gives round bonuses not match bonuses and the round bonus multipliers are bigger than in any other game type. (x2 for a win, x1.5 for a tie, and x1 for a loss)

All other gametypes

Now all the other game types have their pros and cons. In fact I enjoy playing a variety of game types when leveling up as it keeps things fresh and allows for different play styles depending on the game. But I would reserve all the other game types for situational circumstances only.

For example, if there is a demolition contract to win 1 game without allowing the other team to detonate a point, go ahead and spend 10 minutes completing that. It is worth it in the long run. Also, there are game type specific challenges that can be completed when you unlock them. For example, did you know that you will earn 3000 XP for completing 2 challenges just by winning 2 games of sabotage in under 2 minutes? (Sabotage is one of the fastest game types out there when you have a good team)

There are also certain challenges that are much easier to complete on certain game types. For example, all of the final killcam challenges are much easier to get when playing free for all. Because FFA ends at 30 kills simply race to 29 kills with your best weapon and then call in all of your killstreaks at the end to try to get the final killcam with your killstreak. Each final killcam challenge is worth 2500XP, that is a very quick way to get some massive XP at later levels.

Class setups & weapons

Class setups are extremely important to leveling up quickly. One of the biggest mistakes players make when trying to level up quickly is that they pick a weapon and perk setup that they enjoy and stick with it through an entire prestige. Not only does this seem boring to me, it also leads to a whole slew of potential experience that you are missing out on. I am going to outline the main ways in which you earn experience through your class setups below:

Weapon Challenges

Each primary weapon in the game has 2 basic weapon challenges, the marksman challenge (kills) & the expert challenge (headshots). These challenges are progressive in that you start off on tier 1 with only 10 kills required to earn 250XP and then each tier the amount of kills required to complete and the XP rewarded increases. Looking at the chart below you can see that the XP per kill is the best at 1000 kills per weapon. Weapon types and weapon attachments also have a similar tier challenge. Weapon types reach it’s peak XP per kill at 2000 Kills and weapon attachments reach their peak at 1000 kills.

Kills XP XP/Kill
10 250 25
25 500 33.33
75 750 15
150 1000 13.33
300 2000 13.33
500 5000 25
750 7500 30
1000 10000 40
1500 10000 20

So what’s this all mean to you? Basically, try using a primary weapon with the same attachments until you get the 1000 Kill challenge for your weapon and the attachment. Then move onto a new primary weapon using A DIFFERENT attachment until you again get the 1000 Kill challenge for your weapon and attachment.

Pro Perk Challenges

Each perk has a set of 3 challenges that you can complete in order to unlock the “Pro” version of that perk. Each one of those challenges earns you 2000 XP. Completing all the challenges for all the perks will earn you 90,000 total experience.

There are several synergistic perks which have challenges that you can complete at the same time. For example, lightweight, steady aim and ninja all have a challenge that requires knife kills to complete. Lightweight requires 15 knife kills, steady aim requires 2 consecutive knife kills within 5 seconds, and ninja requires 5 back stabs (knife kills directly from behind). So in order to quickly get the 6000 XP from all 3 challenges equip a ballistic knife with lightweight, steady aim and ninja as your perks and run around knifing people. This should earn you 6000 XP relatively quickly, plus an extra 1000 XP from a challenge that requires you to get 2 kills with the ballistic knife without dying (stab kills count).

Although this sounds like a great way to earn experience, some of the perk challenges can be very difficult to complete. That’s why I have assembled a list of tips for helping you complete the pro perk challenges as quickly as possible:

Perk Slot 1

Lightweight: Faster movement speed. Speed increase depends on wielded weapon
Lightweight Pro: No fall damageChallenges & Tips:
Melee Kills - Earn 15 melee kills.
Equip a ballistic knife for fast knifing.
Synergistic with steady aim quick melee & ninja backstabs
Escape Death – Escape death 5 times after being hurt.
After taking damage dive to safety by sprinting and pressing down on the crouch button.
The red on your screen will disappear and your character will take a deep breath when he is healed
Offense Medals - Get 10 Offense Medals by killing enemies near their objective.
Play capture the flag. Pick up the enemy teams flag and run around killing people. Every kill while carrying the enemy flag counts towards this challenge
Scavenger: Resupply from dead players.
Scavenger Pro: Start with extra ammunition & replenish tactical grenadesChallenges & Tips:
Resupplies - Resupply 150 times while using Scavenger.
Grenade Kills – Get 5 Lethal Grenade kills with a resupplied grenade.
Try throwing your grenade right when you spawn then immediately finding a scavenger pack. That way any grenade you throw during that life will be resupplied.
Synergistic with Warlord grenade kills
Kill Count – Get 5 kills without dying 5 times.
Ghost: Unable to be detected by enemy radar. Previously Cold Blooded in MW2.
Ghost Pro: Undetectable by aircraft, dogs, IR, and sentries. No red crosshair or name when targeted.Challenges & Tips:
Concealed Kills – Kill 20 enemies while they have a Spy Plane or Blackbird active.
Synergistic with Ninja silenced kills
Destroy Aircraft – Destroy 30 aircraft with any non-Killstreak launcher.
Ground war is a good game type to find a lot of aircraft
Enemy care package helicopters can be shot down in one shot
Destroy Sentry Gun - Destroy 1 Sentry Gun.
Equip the sentry gun killstreak yourself, then throw the package over to the enemy spawn. When the enemy places it down be ready to sneak up and knife it.
Flak Jacket: Reduces explosive damage
Flak Jacket Pro: Immune to fire damage and allows you to safely toss back frag grenades.Challenges & Tips:
Protected – Survive 10 explosions while using Flack Jacket.
Demolished – Plant or defuse 10 bombs in Demolition, Sabotage, or Search & Destroy.
Demolition is the easiest to get this done. Synergistic with Ninja
Throwbacks – Throw back 5 enemy Frag grenades.
Camp on a perch like the birds nest in firing range and throw decoys next to you. The enemy team should start lobbing grenades at you… throw them back.  Even cooked grenades that you just start to pick up and blow up while in the process of throwing count towards a throwback.
Hardline: Killstreaks require 1 less kill to acquire.
Hardline Pro: Change the contents of a Care Package.Challenges & Tips:Share Packages – Share 10 Killstreak reward crates with teammates.
Equip SAM Turret, Care Package and Sentry Gun killstreaks. This way one killstreak of 5 will earn you 3 packages to be shared with your team. Big maps make it easier to call in care packages without the enemy team interfering
Multiple Killstreaks – Earn 7 killstreaks in one match while using Hardline.
Can be done at the same time as share packages above, or put on 3-4-5 killstreaks (UAV, Counter UAV, Care Package) and just play normally.  Don’t stay alive for too long after earning all 3 of your killstreaks as you need to reset your killstreak counter.
Killstreak – Get 7 kills without dying in one match.

Perk Slot 2

Hardened: Increased bullet penetration. Previously FMJ attachment in MW2
Hardened Pro: Bullets do extra damage to aircraft and turrets. Reduced flinch when you are shot.Challenges & Tips:
Penetration Kills – Get 10 kills using Hardened and shooting through walls.
The M60 is good for this but really any gun will work.
Bullets in Aircraft – Shoot 200 bullets into enemy aircraft.
Find a fast firing weapon with a big clip then shoot at a heli
Equipment Shot – Destroy 1 piece of enemy equipment through a wall.
USE HACKER!  Synergistic with Hacker destroys
Scout: Hold breath longer during weapon scope
Scout Pro: Faster Weapon SwitchingChallenges & Tips:
Secondary Kills – Get 50 kills with secondary weapons.
Use a pistol only for a few games. Can’t go wrong with a python plus speed reloader
One Shot Kills – Get 50 One Shot, One Kill Medals.
I hate sniping so I never get this
Headshots – Get 30 Headshot kills.
I rarely get this challenge just because once I get the 50 secondary kills I stop using this perk
Steady Aim: Increased hip fire accuracy. (smaller aiming reticule spread)
Steady Aim Pro: Quicker aiming after sprinting and quicker recovery from knife lunge.Challenges & Tips:
Quick Melee – Melee two enemies consecutively within 5 seconds.
Equip a ballistic knife.  Synergistic with Light Weight melee kills and Ninja backstabs
Sprint Kills – Get 100 kills after sprinting.
Use an SMG.  Synergistic with Marathon miles
Hip Fire Kills – Get 150 hip fire kills using Steady Aim.
Use an SMG
Sleight of Hand: Faster reloads.
Sleight of Hand Pro: Faster aiming down sights with non-scoped weapons.Challenges & Tips:
Aiming Kills – Get 150 kills while aiming down sights.
Reload Kills – Kill an enemy within 5 seconds of reloading 30 times.
Fast Hand Kills – Reload and finish off the enemy you wounded 10 times.
Fire 1 shot of your weapon. When you see an enemy, stun or flash them. After seeing the hit detection quickly reload your gun and kill the enemy. Profit.
Alternatively, use a noob tube (grenade launcher) on a gun. A lot of kills will require both grenades and will count towards a fast hand kill.
Warlord: Allows 2 attachments on primary weapon. Previously Bling in MW2
Warlord Pro: Start with 1 extra lethal and tactical grenade (except smoke)Challenges & Tips:
Two Attachment Kills – Get 150 kills using a gun with two attachments.
Dual mags + Silencer is my favorite combo for a ghost class
Grenade Kills – Get 10 Frag or Semtex kills.
Synergistic with Scavenger
Grenade Multi-kills – Get 1 multi-kill with Frag or Semtex.
Synergistic with Scavenger. Ground war makes this easier. More players = more chances for a multi kill grenade

Perk Slot 3

Marathon: Longer sprint duration
Marathon Pro: Unlimited SprintChallenges & Tips:
26 Miles – Sprint 26 miles using Marathon.
This sucks… enjoy the grind
First Blood – Get the First Blood Medal 10 times.
Start every round of every game with a marathon class and switch once first blood is taken. You will get this eventually doing that.
Captures – In Capture the Flag, get the Flag Capture Medal 15 times while using Marathon.
Synergistic with lightweight offensive medals
Ninja: Silent footsteps
Ninja Pro: Louder Enemies and you’re completely silent.Challenges & Tips:
Silenced Kills – Get 150 kills using the Suppressor attachment.
Synergistic with Ghost concealed kills
Back Stabs – Get 5 Backstabber Medals.
Synergistic with light weight melee kills and steady aim quick melee
Plants – Plant the bomb 10 times in Demolition, Sabotage, or Search & Destroy.
Plant then hide near the bomb. Let the enemy defuse, kill them, then re-plant. Works great when whole team does this.  Synergistic with flak jacket defuses
Second Chance: Pull out your pistol before dying
Second Chance Pro: Survive longer, and any teammate can revive you.Challenges & Tips:
Kills – Get 10 kills while in Second Chance.
Shoot
Revenge – While in Second Chance, kill the enemy who downed you 5 times.
Shoot more
Headshot – Get 1 headshot kill while in Second Chance.
Shoot and get lucky, then contemplate on your actions for using such a ghey perk.
Hacker: Detect enemy equipment & explosives through walls.
Hacker Pro: Can sabotage enemy equipment, turrets, and crates. Invisible to motion sensors.Challenges & Tips:
Destroys – Destroy 10 equipment or explosives while using Hacker.
Synergistic with Hardened equipment shot
Explosive Kills – Kill 25 enemies with a Claymore or C4.
C4 is actually faster if you know how to use them. Double tap reload button to fast detonate C4 in air.
Near Equipment Kills – Kill 25 enemies within the radius of your Jammer or Motion Sensor
Motion sensor is easier. Put it down in the corner of a high traffic area or objective
Tactical Mask: reduces effects of flashbangs and concussion grenades.
Tactical Mask Pro: Reduces the effects of the flash and concussion grenades. Reveals the position of a flashed or stunned enemy.Challenges & Tips:
Flash Kills – Kill 20 enemies that are blinded by your Flashbang.
Concussion Kills – Kill 20 enemies that are stunned by your Concussion Grenade.
Nova Gas Kills – Kill 20 enemies poisoned by your Nova Gas
Flash, Stun & Nova Kills are all synergistic with Scavenger Pro & Warlord Pro as you replenish tac grenades and get extra grenades with warlord.  I rarely get the tac mask challenges during leveling as I feel they take to long to complete when I would rather be using ninja, hacker, or marathon

Level By Level Class Loadout

So combining the tips from above this is a level by level class loadout that I typically use for each prestige:

Levels 1-4: Use anything as custom classes and challenges are not unlocked yet. You can get to about level 6 with one good game of HQ. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dN9cizyBEog

Levels 5-13: Until I unlock the Famas I usually just use the Mp5K and try to complete some perk challenges. Use these levels to get your knife and steady aim challenges done.  I do recommend getting tactical insertions early as a lot of your XP will come from capping HQ points in early levels and using tac inserts makes that easier.
Class Loadout:
Primary:
Mp5K + Rapid Fire
Secondary: anything
Equipment/Lethal/Tactical: tac insert, frag, decoys
Perk 1: Lightweight
Perk 2: Steady Aim
Perk 3: Marathon/Ninja
Tips: Work towards 150 kills with the Mp5K + rapid fire.  That will complete the challenges for MP5 Kills Level IV, SMG Kills Level II, and Rapid Fire Kills Level III, amounting towards a total of 5000 XP already.  Also use these levels to complete your lightweight challenges, steady aim challenges, and if you can play CTF for a bit I usually get my marathon flag caps and lightweight offensive medals during this time.  The 3 perk challenges for lightweight & steady aim combined with the one challenge for marathon and two challenges for ninja all amount to 18,000 XP, a great early boost for your leveling.

Levels 14-29: I introduce you to the Fusil d’Assaut de la Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Étienne or FAMAS.  The Famas is the best gun in the game.  Some people argue that it’s noobish to use and it’s cheap but the simple fact of the matter is that statistically it is superior to every gun in the game.  I use this religiously until I get the 1000 Kill challenge for it.  However, if you refuse to use such a “noobish” weapon here are some good alternatives that you unlock during levels 14-30:
Level 17: Unlock AK74u – By far the best SMG in the game.  Great alternative to the Famas and unlocks just a few levels after the Famas.
Level 20: Unlock Galil – Great AR.  Does more damage than the Famas at the cost of higher recoil and slower rate of fire.  Still a great alternative though.
Level 21: Unlock M60/Stoner – Stoner/M60 are situational but if you want to play with these big guns this is your time to shine.  Personally, the slower movement, reload and grenade throw speeds while using LMG’s are too unbearable for me.
Level 26: Unlock Aug – The ignored and underrated step sister of the Famas.  Statistically it is almost identical to the Famas save a slightly larger recoil pattern.
Class Loadout:
Primary: Famas + Dual mags / Silencer
Secondary: Python Speed Reloader or CZ75 Extended Mags
Equipment/Lethal/Tactical: tac insert, frag/semtex, flash/stun
Perk 1: Hardline/Scavenger/Ghost
Perk 2: Sleight of Hand/Warlord
Perk 3: Marathon/Ninja/SecondChance/Hacker
Tips: This is where you should make a major push to complete as many perk challenges as possible.  Work towards the 1000 kill challenge for the Famas, Assault Rifles, and Dual Mags or Silencer attachments while sequentially completing each perk challenge.  For example, as soon as I have the money to buy the SAM turret, Care package, and sentry gun killstreaks I equip all 3 killstreaks and complete all 3 hardline challenges within a couple of games.  Next I will put on ghost, sleight of hand and ninja with a silenced Famas, and get my concealed kills, sentry gun kill (it’s a lot easier if you just earn it yourself and throw the care package to the enemy), aim down sight kills, reload kills, silencer kills, and fast hand kills.  This might also be a good time to go play some demolition games and get your ninja/flack jacket plants/defuses.  Once you have hardline, sleight of hand and ninja pro it’s time to switch the class up.  Put on Scavenger, Warlord, and Second Chance and go be a douchebag in all the servers.  Collect all the scavenger packs while constantly throwing grenades and pissing people off by going into second chance before each death.  You should be able to complete all perk challenges for all 3 perks within 10-25 games.

Levels 30-45: By the time you reach level 30 hopefully you have the following already completed: Lightweight Pro, Scavenger Pro, Hardline Pro, Steady Aim Pro, Sleight of Hand Pro, Warlord Pro, Ninja Pro & Second Chance Pro.  There are also a few challenges from other perks that you should have gotten by now but they probably won’t be pro perks yet.  If you aren’t completely finished with some of your challenges don’t sweat it.  Occasionally challenges will allude you.  One prestige I spent probably over 20 games trying to get the second chance headshot before I finally got it.  Just try to wrap them up as soon as possible then move onto the next challenge.  Levels 30-45 are a very big chunk of your leveling experience, encompassing almost 50% of the total XP you will earn during a prestige.  So just grind through these levels as best you can.

Level 30 is an important level for 2 reasons.  First of all you you unlock the Strela-3.  The Strela-3 is a great secondary for any ghost class as it almost guarantees you a couple of aircraft kills during an HQ game.  Secondly, level 30 unlocks Final challenges like the finishing moves.  If you are good at Free For All, I suggest you use this time to go complete your finishing move challenges.  Finishing moves are when you get the final killcam using certain weapons or killstreaks highlighted in the challenge.  Otherwise, if you are bad at FFA or don’t like to play that gametype, continue on with your perk challenges.  Both class loadouts and tips are listed below.

FFA Class Loadout:
Primary:
Famas + Silencer
Secondary: Python Speed Reloader
Equipment/Lethal/Tactical: motion sensor/radar jammer, frag/semtex, decoy (Your equipment/lethal/tac might need to be switched out depending on the challenge you are trying to complete.  Such as getting a tomahawk kill or C4 kill in the final killcam)
Perk 1: Hardline
Perk 2: Sleight of Hand
Perk 3: Ninja
Tips: In order to level quickly when playing FFA try doing this.  First setup your killstreaks to be UAV/BlackBird/________ (insert whatever killstreak you need to complete the finishing move challenge here)  Next of all run around and collect kills as fast as possible.  Only use your UAV and Blackbird killstreak, save your 3rd killstreak and try to stack multiple ones up for the end.  When you reach 29 kills then call in your 3rd killstreak and try to get the final killcam.  If your killstreak doesn’t get the final killcam then try to do one of the final killcam challenges that doesn’t require a killstreak such as a C4, tomahawk, ballistic knife, crossbow kill.  I always keep a variety of classes available for me to switch to.  The whole idea is to get your 30th kill while completing a final killcam challenge.  If you are good at FFA you can rack up the XP for the win and killcam challenges very quickly.  I was able to earn 8 final kill cam challenges (16,000 XP) in around 1 hour of play.  That’s not including the XP I got from all the wins.

Regular Class Loadout:
Primary:
Famas + Dual mags / Silencer
Secondary: Python Speed Reloader or CZ75 Extended Mags / Strela-3 for Ghost challenges
Equipment/Lethal/Tactical: tac insert, frag/semtex, flash/stun
Perk 1: Ghost/Flack Jacket
Perk 2: Hardened/Scout
Perk 3: Marathon/Hacker
Tips: Try to wrap up the last of your perk challenges during these 15 levels.  Put on flack jacket, hardened & hacker and shoot through a wall to destroy a piece of equipment, easy 2000 XP.  Shoot down aircraft for your Ghost challenge.  Survive some explosions.  Get some hardened penetration kills.  Use your secondary weapon for a few rounds until you get your one scout challenge.  Finish your marathon miles and get your hacker claymore & motion sensor kills.  That being said there are some challenges which I usually DONT COMPLETE… The thing is if a challenge is very difficult to complete and you don’t play as well while using that perk then in the long run you are being detrimental to your leveling.  The challenges which I usually don’t complete are as follows: Flack Jacket throw backs, Hardened bullets in Aircraft, Scout one shot kills, Scout headshots, All 3 tactical mask challenges and sometimes I don’t get all 26 marathon miles.  Keep this in mind.  Don’t spend too much time on challenges that make you play poorly.  If you find yourself sucking with a particular perk, throw on your pro perks that you are the best with and play your prestige out with those.  Also, at this time pay attention to your primary weapon kills.  Once you hit 1000 kills on your primary weapon and attachments move onto a new primary weapon.  I recommend keeping the primary weapon in the same classification (ie: if you use an assault rifle for your first 1000 kills, use another assault rifle for your 2nd gun).  Kills are really subjective to how good a player is.  Some people get thousands of kills per prestige, others don’t get 500.  Play to your strengths.  If you can’t kill anyone for squat, focus on hopping on the HQ points and getting as many captures and defends as you can.

Levels 45-50: By this time you should have all of your perk challenges completed that you are going to finish for this prestige.  The good news is you are only 5 levels away from prestiging.  The bad news is that experience wise you still have 25% of the leveling process to get through these final 5 levels.  The great thing about the last 5 levels is that this is your time to shine.  You should have all the pro perks and weapons you need and have COD cash for days.  Use this time to get your best games in during your prestige.  There is no worrying about challenges or things now.  Just focus on getting kills and completing in game objectives.  The better you play during these final 5 levels the faster you will get to prestige.

Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Leveling Guide – How to level up fast in Call of Duty MW2

To prestige, or not to prestige.. that is the question.

Whether ’tis nobler in the game to suffer

The nades and bullets of outrageous timmies,

Or to take arms against a sea of javelin glitches

And, by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep

This thread is a collection of helpful information and tips that are meant to help you improve your Knowledge and Skill in Modern Warfare 2.

Leveling Guide:

The major difference between leveling in COD4 & leveling in Modern Warfare 2 is the amount of challenges that MW2 offers compared to COD4. And because you can work on a lot of the challenges at the same time, you can utilize the new leveling system to get through a prestige faster than you would think.

The total amount of experience needed to prestige in MW2 is 2,516,000

The best utilization of the current leveling system I can see is to try and get the highest experience yielding challenges that take the least amount of game time to achieve and doing them in an order that allows you to work on multiple challenges at once.

LEVELING GUIDE:

Looking at this Challenge EXP Chart you can see that most guns have the same challenges and the same experience earned to reach those challenges. The 2 most important primary weapon challenges in my opinion are the ”Marksman VI” challenge (get 500 Kills with the weapon) and the ”Mastery” challenge (Unlock All Attachments for that weapon)

If you complete the ”Marksman VI” challenge, the ”Mastery” challenge , and the ”Expert IV” challenge (75 Headshots) on any Assault Rifle you will have earned 51,500 experience on that gun alone. In fact pretty much any primary weapon will earn you close to 50,000 Experience once you complete those 2 challenges.

Here is a closer look at every Attachment that needs to be unlocked for to reach ”Mastery” on an Assault Rifle.

  • Grenade Launcher - Complete Marksman I (10 kills with weapon)
  • Red Dot Sight - Marksman II (25 kills)
  • Silencer - Marksman III (75 kills)
  • ACOG Scope - Marksman IV (150 kills)
  • FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) – Marksman V (300 kills)
    • **TIP FOR FMJ KILLS** There are a lot of maps where there are great spots you can shoot through objects at very high traffic areas and rack up your FMJ kills while camping. I recommend looking for anything that’s wood or easy to shoot through ahead of you and you can still see people running above it and shoot through the wood for the kill. You unlock FMJ at 300 kills so you have around 200 kills before Marksman VI to get your 40 FMJ kills to unlock extended mags.
  • Shotgun Attachment - 20 kills with attached Grenade Launcher
  • Holographic Site - 60 kills using (aiming through) the Red Dot Sight
  • Heartbeat Sensor - 15 kills with Silencer attached
  • Thermal Scope - 20 kills aiming through the ACOG scope.
  • Extended Mags - 40 bullet penetration kills with FMJ option selected

As you can see they all can be completed by the time you hit ”Marksman VI” and have 500 Kills for that weapon.

As soon as you reach 500 Kills/Mastery on any weapon I recommend moving onto another primary weapon. The reasoning behind this is that it takes a lot more game time to complete the rest of that weapon’s challenges than it would to complete the 500Kills/Mastery Challenges on a new Primary Weapon and the rest of the weapon’s challenges earn you the same amount of experience.

Along with the 500 Kill/Mastery Challenge rule, I recommend you complete the Perks & Task Challenges at the same time according to what you have unlocked. Each Perk has 6 Levels of challenges to be completed and can earn you a total of 29,000 experience by the time it is maxed.

Using these principles, I have tried to create a mock leveling guide, giving you an idea of how I level.

Levels 1-5: Just kill stuff until you unlock challenges. My favorite default class is First Recon though. It has a UMP45, tac knife Magnum, marathon, lightweight, and ninja. This class is great as a runner and all purpose class to start your leveling off.

Levels 5-29: I base my early level classes off of my perk 3 slot. My favorite perk in the entire game is Ninja Pro. But because Ninja is not available until level 29 I use classes that benefit from Commando or Steady Aim (the 2 perk 3′s unlocked by default.)

So my starting class is:

  • Primary: UMP45
  • Secondary: USP45
  • Perk 1: Marathon
  • Perk 2: Lightweight (or Stopping Power, but SP kills are really easy to get at any time so I save them for later)
  • Perk 3: Steady Aim

Steady Aim Pro VI requires 500 hip fire kills which is not that hard to do with an SMG. And even though Marksman VI is 500 kills you won’t get them at the same time since a lot of your kills are going to be aiming down the sights. For this reason you will probably get Mastery on a gun before Steady Aim Pro VI, at which time I recommend you use a different SMG or Weapon to finish off Steady Aim Pro.

Hopefully by this time I have 75 kills with my USP, at which point I switch to my tac knife commando class:

  • Primary Weapon: Another SMG or Assault Rifle
  • Secondary Weapon: USP Tactical Knife
  • Perk 1: Marathon
  • Perk 2: Lightweight
  • Perk 3: Commando

This is a very fun class. It is only 100 knife kills to reach Commando VI and you would be surprised how easy this is to do with a Marathon/Lightweight/TacKnifeclass.

Levels 29-50:

The second I unlock Ninja I move into my Assault Rifles or Main Leveling Portion. You can really use any guns that you would like at this point.

  • Primary: M4A1, SCAR, FAL, M16. Any AR Really
  • Secondary: M9 or Raffica or Shotgun. Whatever you want
  • Perk 1: Sleight of Hand, Bling, Scavenger
  • Perk 2: Stopping Power, Hardline
  • Perk 3: Ninja

Sleight of Hand is maxed at 750 Kills. Bling is maxed at 900 Kills. Stopping Power at 1000. Ninja is maxed at 250 Close Range Kills. Scavenger you need to pick up500 backpacks off the ground. These are all Cookie Cutter perks and can be maxed out with pretty much any weapon that you want. I rotate through all my favorite Assault Rifles while completing these perks. The only perk I listed which is questionable is Hardline. I believe hardline is a great perk if you equip a 3,5, and 7 killstreak. If you equip those then you only need a 6 killstreak to count 3 hardline bonuses. My favorite 3,5,7 combo is UAV, Pred, Harrier. This guarantees a near constant UAV, frequent Pred, and occasional Harrier.

Also, a wonderful class that I want to mention in the mid levels is a Danger Close class. I recommend using Danger Close like this:

  • Primary: Assault Rifle w/ Noob Tube
  • Secondary: Thumper
  • Perk 1: Scavenger
  • Perk 2: Danger Close
  • Perk 3: Ninja

This class is incredible. You basically have 4 deadly renewable noob tubes and a renewable semtex. I will go through and get all 20 of my noob tube kills on every AR that I have unlocked. Danger Close Requires 500 Explosive Kills to max. This is really easier than you think. Especially when you use scavenger.

Levels 51-70:

At this point I like to start maxing some of the late perks and weapons. As soon as I get my M21 I use this class:

  • Primary: M21
  • Secondary: One Man Army
  • Perk 1: One Man Army
  • Perk 2: Stopping Power Pro
  • Perk 3: Ninja Pro
  • Equipment: Claymore

I love this class because OMA gives you a 6 second full resupply. And OMA Pro only takes 3 Seconds to Fully Change Classes. This means you are basically a sniper with unlimited ammo and 2 claymores protecting your back at all times. Another awesome thing that people don’t know about One Man Army. You can OMA to another class: Sleight of Hand, Stopping Power, Ninja or something. And all the kills you get with that new class go towards your OMA kills. That means if you wanted to start each life out with switching to another class you could max OMA without ever actually getting a kill with OMA currently active.

Final tip you might use with OMA Pro. If you use OMA Pro with an LMG you would have a 3 second reload. This is faster than any standard reload on an LMG aside from the Aug. For a spamming LMG class OMA Pro is amazing!

PRESTIGE CHALLENGES:

A new addition to MW2 is the newly found Prestige Challenges found on each weapon and in the general barracks. The great thing about these challenges is that you can actually ”double up” on your gun experience earning. What I mean by this is the first prestige challenge for each primary weapon is 500 kills.

That means if you follow the same 500 Kill/Mastery rule for your 1st prestige you would not only get the 10k exp for Marksman VI but you would also get the 10k exp for your first Prestige Challenge.

If you combine this with “switching up” the weapons you use each prestige you could maximize your experience earning potential and double up each Marksman VI Challenge. The ”prestige” weapon kills give you 10,000 exp per challenge at 500, 1000, and 2500 kills which means you would get an extra 10,000 exp for your 1st, 2nd, and 5th prestige using that particular gun.

Final Thoughts:

The last thing I will address is individual play styles and gametypes. If you look at Match Bonus multipliers, CTF is basically penalized, Demolition gets double, and the rest of the game types are pretty much identical.

What’s that mean to you? Play what you like since most of the gametypes are identical, but the most earning potential happens on Demolition. And the great thing about Demolition is you can also get plant, defuse, and earn bomb challenges at the same time.

Finally, all of this leveling guide is based on my own personal play style. If you hate a certain perk, weapon, or gametype… don’t play it. It’s not worth missing out on the fun you could be having, as well as it will probably be detrimental to your leveling anyways if you are hating what you are doing.

That about wraps it up. Thanks for reading.
